Tiime Management 101 (Part 4)

Today I would like to share two more simple time management principles. The first is called automate as much as possible. What do you spend a lot of time on right now that could be automated? Do you spend hours each week writing out checks and paying bills? A lot of banks now offer free online bill pay. You can spend a few extra hours one day by plugging all your bills into the bill pay on your online banking and then sit back and watch it regularly. You still will need to spend time each week checking your account and watching it balance, but the time it takes to do this will not come close to time it takes to write all those checks each week. Plus, you will save money on stamps! This principle doesn’t just apply to bill paying though. Maybe you write certain items down on your calendar every day or week and it is always the same time and day each week. Make this a recurring item instead. The key is to think about how technology can save you time by allowing you to automate: automate once, watch regularly.
The second principle is: don’t start the day until you’ve planned the day. In other words, make sure all the day’s activities are planned before you begin your day. I would challenge you to plan a week at a time though, either at the beginning of the week or end of the week for the next one. I think daily planning is to short term. However, if you get up one day and haven’t planned your activities yet, then don’t start doing anything until you plan the day out. You will get much more of the important things done this way. Remember Proverbs 21:5 says, “The plans of the diligent lead surely to abundance, but everyone who is hasty comes only to poverty.”
